40 CFR Part 60 Subpart IIII

Standards of Performance for Stationary Compression Ignition Internal Combustion Engines

Subpart IIII sets emission standards and compliance requirements for stationary compression ignition (CI) internal combustion engines. It applies to manufacturers who produce these engines and to owners and operators who use them, covering emission limits, fuel requirements, testing, and recordkeeping. The subpart includes eight tables that specify emission standards in g/kW-hr (or g/HP-hr) for different engine sizes, model years, and uses (including emergency engines and fire pumps), as well as certification, labeling, and testing requirements.

§ 60.4200(a)

This subpart applies to manufacturers, owners, and operators of stationary compression ignition (CI) internal combustion engines (ICE), and for purposes of this subpart construction commences on the date the engine is ordered. Manufacturers of stationary CI ICE with displacement less than 30 liters per cylinder are covered if the model year is 2007 or later for non-fire-pump engines, or the model year listed in Table 3 or later for fire pump engines. Owners and operators are covered if the engine commences construction after July 11, 2005, and is manufactured after April 1, 2006 (non-fire-pump) or manufactured as a certified NFPA fire pump engine after July 1, 2006. Owners, operators, and anyone who modifies or reconstructs any stationary CI ICE after July 11, 2005 are also covered, and the provisions of section 60.4208 apply to all owners and operators of stationary CI ICE that commence construction after July 11, 2005.

§ 60.4200(a)(3)

You are subject to this subpart if you own, operate, modify, or reconstruct any stationary compression ignition (CI) internal combustion engine (ICE) that is modified or reconstructed after July 11, 2005.

§ 60.4200(a)(4)

Section 60.4208 applies to owners and operators of any stationary compression ignition internal combustion engine (CI ICE) that commenced construction after July 11, 2005. For this subpart, construction commences on the date the engine is ordered.

§ 60.4200(c)

If you own or operate an area source covered by this subpart, you do not have to get a permit under 40 CFR part 70 or 71 solely because of this subpart, unless something else already requires you to get one. You still must comply with all the Subpart IIII requirements that apply to area sources.
