SALE AND INSTALLATION OF WOOD-BURNING APPLIANCES AND THE USE OF CERTAIN WOOD BURNING APPLIANCES DURING HIGH POLLUTION DAYS 5 CCR 1001-6
Colorado Regulation Number 4 governs the sale and installation of wood-burning appliances and restricts the use of certain wood-burning appliances during high pollution days.
I.A.4.
A boiler is a domestic solid wood-burning appliance used mainly to heat the space where it sits by circulating a heated gas or fluid through pipes, and it must be tested and listed as a boiler under accepted U.S. or Canadian safety testing codes.
I.A.5.
Burn down time is the period – no more than three hours after a high pollution day is declared – allowed for combustion to stop in any wood-burning stove, pellet stove, masonry heater or wood-burning fireplace under this regulation.
I.A.8.
An exempt device is a wood-burning device that does not meet EPA's definition of a wood-burning stove under 40 CFR Part 60 Subpart AAA (2015) and is also not a fireplace, masonry heater, or pellet stove as defined in this regulation.
I.A.9.
A furnace is a solid wood-burning appliance designed to sit outside normal living areas and heat other spaces by blowing heated air through ducts. It must be tested and listed as a furnace under accepted U.S. or Canadian safety codes.
